Breakbot and Air lend a hand to Haiti

Breakbot

One of our favourite artists right now, Breakbot, has lent his golden touch to those French fancies Air on brand spanking new track.

Air – So Light is Her Footfall (Breakbot Remix)

The remix will appear on the Hear to Help charity CD available next month exclusively at American Eagle Outfitters, benefiting Oxfam America’s Haiti Recovery effort. Air’s Love 2 is out via Astralwerks. More on Breakbot at MySpace.

And it’s with rose tinted glasses we look back on another brilliant Air collaboration with the blissed out (or should that be paranoid?) Beck.

Flying Lotus and Hendrix?

Lotus

Cosmogramma, Flying Lotus’s highly anticipated sophomore release on Warp, will be dropping May 4th. Quakes didn’t quite make the final cut of the album, but it sure is getting a lot of people excited. Mary Anne Hobbs for example is already calling Lotus the Hendrix of our generation. Slightly ott maybe but it does pack one hell of a punch.

In anticipation of the release Warp are giving away three non-album tracks here. They include the Gucci Mane remix that appeared on the ‘Free Gucci’ mixtape and a couple from the ‘2010′ compilation including a Flying Lotus produced track from the upcoming Gonja Sufi album. You dig?

Everyone loves a Twin Sister

Twin sister make Shakey Times feel a little more than just alright. If bands were girlfriends (which we all know they’re not, alas) then Twin Sister would be the ethereal and impeccably cute sort.

That’s not to say these New Yorker’s couldn’t show you good time; but we’re certain they’d much prefer to be lovers and not fighters. It’s the subtle nuances in their sound that stops them from being just sweet and nice though with depth and character differentiating them from say, just being an Air France / Beach House mish mash. The attention to detail on tracks like Ribbon Bow for example make a very strong case for their imminent debut E.P to fit quite comfortably into our records of the year – and we’re only two months in.

If you boys have got any sense, get those little mitts of yours on these tracks and be sure to record them on that Valentines Day mix we’re sure you’re all just itching to make. She’ll love you for it, mark our word.

Go out and buy erland and the carnival

The debut album from erland and the carnival, packed full of folk-tinged, psyched-up, fuzzed-out brilliance is out now! Erland and the carnival features simon tong (the verve / the good the bad the queen) and david nock (who has engineered the fireman). They make a pastoral, psychedelic sound described like pentangle meets ennio morricone meets love meets 13th floor elevators meets joe meek.

Check this out….beautiful, just beautiful.

Blood Bath

Hottest new kids on the block Surfer Blood come from that lovely and sunny part of the world, Florida, U.S of A.

Hard to guess however, given the gritty take on Wreckless Eric-esque new wave sounds.

Jaunary 19th marks the release of their new album “Astro Coast” which, if ‘Floating Vibes’ is anything to go by, should be a stormer.

Remember, with new year’s, come new bands, and only some of them of worth listening too. Thankfully Surfer Blood are one of them!

Best Coast – When I’m With You

Best Coast is an extremely promising L.A. rock act masterminded by singer Bethany Cosentino. The recent Best Coast song “When I’m With You”, coupled with this exert from the nutty ’67 French film Les Demoiselles de Rochefort – we think makes for a pretty cool visual / audio treat.

Cosentino makes lo-fi garage-pop informed by 1960s girl groups and 1990s alt grrls – Big tip for 2010!
