Slow Club are just lovely. The ‘anti-folk’ Sheffield duo, who use wooden chairs, bottles and spoons as percussive props, manage to build wonderfully bittersweet acoustic numbers as if the White Stripes were reinvented as a skiffle band.
It’s the sort of music which is just twee enough to fit snugly between Hefner and The Shout Out Louds on your record shelf. Maybe more importantly though it’s the sort of music, and the sort of group you feel like you can hold close to heart. We like.
