The solo project of the Knife’s Karin Dreijer, Fever Ray shares some of her main group’s icy electronic atmospheres, but takes a slightly more organic-sounding approach. Reminiscent of Bjork, Tori Amos or Kate Bush at their best, Fever Ray’s debut self titled record is an odd gem of a record that should be cherished in a class of its own.
Putting Fever Ray into words is not an enviable task, but falling for its welcoming pied-piper charm, as a trance like accompaniment to the shuffling complexities of life, is. Quite simply, like so many of her ilk, the world needs more Karin Dreijer Andersson’s, and Fever Ray deserves to be embraced as an album to reassuringly haunt our fondest memories.
This, her first solo video is an equal masterpiece.
