OH Lonesome Me – Ward, Williams, Young, Stills…and Owen Wilson.

Oh Lonesome Me was written and recorded by Don Gibson in Nashville during the summer of 1958. Sounding predictably more melancholic, Neil Young knocked out a killer version to feature on the 1970 stunner, After The Gold Rush.

Obviously, given the blogs title, we could bang on about Neil Young for about a Decade (see what we did there? …no?) but we wont. We were listening to M Ward’s version of the song with gravel voiced Lucinda Williams today and we must’ve thought, for roughly half a second, that Ward’s sepia-toned charm was pissing over all over Young’s version…

Before having a jug of the strongest coffee we could find- giving ourselves a ruddy good telling off -and promising NEVER to be so stupid again. Ward’s effort is definitely worth a listen this said. Just don’t compare it to Neil Young’s version whatever you do.
